FAQ

What is BodyTalk?

A BodyTalk treatment considers the whole-person: emotional, physical, genetic, beliefs, and environmental influences. By doing so, your natural healing system is enhanced bringing optimal balance and communication to all cells and systems. This improved communication is vital for present and long term health and well-being.

BodyTalk integrates the latest discoveries from science, physiology, genetics, psychology, quantum physics and ancient wisdom of eastern medicine to help reconnect lines of healthy communication within all levels of the body-mind.

Health challenges arise for a variety of reasons. BodyTalk practitioners are trained to look at the whole-person: emotional, physical and environmental influences - the true underlying causes of "dis-ease" can be revealed.

Every choice, and every experience in your life, has contributed to your current state of health. BodyTalk takes into consideration your whole-story. Your life-style, genetics, and history are all drawn upon to establish a personalized approach to health and wellness that brings about lasting changes.

The BodyTalk System was first developed in the 1990s by Dr. John Veltheim. Originally from Australia, Dr. Veltheim ran a very successful clinic in Brisbane for 15 years. He served as Principal of the Brisbane College of Acupuncture and Natural Therapies for five years. His extensive post-graduate studies include applied kinesiology, bio-energetic psychology, osteopathy, quantum physics, sports medicine, counseling and comparative philosophy and theology.

Dr. Veltheim has written numerous magazine and journal articles on BodyTalk and his other fields of knowledge. Dr. Veltheim’s work has also been published in the Journal of Alternative Medicine Research. The journal’s publishers were so impressed with his development of The BodyTalk System, they dedicated an entire volume solely to articles about BodyTalk.

Do I need BodyTalk?

We all experience stress, be it in the body or mind.

In fact, stress is the number one cause of disease in the world because it causes the natural communication lines in the body to break down. When the body forgets how to communicate within itself, injury and illness occur.

Healing. The body is designed to heal and grow – physically, emotionally and mentally.
Coordination. If all our parts are communicating and the brain can coordinate everything, we heal and grow.
Stress. All types of stress (physical, emotional, environmental, etc) can cause breakdowns in the body’s already busy lines of communication.
Breakdowns. When there is a communication breakdown, the body will adapt, but will also become less efficient. The parts forget how to work as a team and start segmenting themselves.
Symptoms. A symptom is the last stage of imbalance - the body is calling out for help that it needs to be heard.

Can BodyTalk help me?

As a BodyTalk Practitioner, I specialize in working  with women, men, children, and infants. Often I work with people who:

1) Are either looking for or are open to a holistic approach to healing. Often these are people who may not have found relief with other conventional treatments and are ready to try a different approach.
2) Are actively involved in a personal healing and growth process who want to work with their physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects in the context of the healing process.

BodyTalk can be useful in a number of situations i) it can be used to address specific diseases and disorders, ii) it can be used as a means of maintenance and prevention to keep the body in good health, and iii) it can be used to complement other treatment modalities.

What are distant treatments?

A distance BodyTalk session is basically the same as an in-person\ session. Instead of the session being done in person, it’s facilitated from a distance. Oftentimes the appointment will be conducted by phone. In some instances when the client & Spencer have difficulty coordinating schedules due to large differences in time zones, for example, Spencer will make an audio recording of the session & email the session to the client. The client can then listen to the session at their convenience.

ARE DISTANCE BODY TALK SESSIONS EFFECTIVE?

In short, yes. Both clinical experience & client feedback have shown that distance BodyTalk sessions can be just as effective as sessions done in person. In addition, a peer-reviewed research study focusing specifically on distance BodyTalk sessions was published in the Journal of Pain Management demonstrating the effectiveness of distance BodyTalk in helping people suffering from chronic pain, depression & anxiety. Certified BodyTalk Practitioners & their clients have observed noticeable improvements in all aspects of health - physical, mental, emotional & spiritual - using distance BodyTalk sessions. What happens after the first BodyTalk treatment?

For some clients, one treatment is all it takes. However, Spencer may recommend additional sessions based on his interpretation of your body's needs, as well as your own feedback. The average time between sessions is usually 1 to 3 weeks.

Does BodyTalk interfere with other medical treatments?

Though BodyTalk is not a substitute for traditional medical care, many conditions have responded positively to BodyTalk because it utilizes and focuses the body’s natural healing efforts, leading to quicker recovery. BodyTalkers believe when the 36 surface energy points are balanced, people will experience improvement in all areas, including mood, energy level, muscle tension, and overall bodily function. Some of the issues BodyTalk has been successful in addressing include digestive disorders, hormone imbalance, neurological disorders, asthma, chronic infection, allergies, sports- and trauma-related muscle and joint stiffness, depression, anxiety, chronic pain, insomnia, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), migraines, and learning disabilities, among others.

Dr. Veltheim’s BodyTalk System is a popular holistic therapy. Not only does it offer a low-risk, medically complimentary, non-invasive, and pharmaceutical-free treatment alternative, BodyTalk focuses on both physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

How do I prepare for my BodyTalk treatment?

It is not necessary to prepare for a BodyTalk treatment, but Spencer does recommend drinking plenty of water and writing down your intentions for the treatment. When the body is hydrated it is able to shift and make changes more easily. It's a great idea to have intentions for your treatment, but again not necessary. The body responds well to intentional thoughts.

I have back pain. Why are you treating my shoulder?

The BodyTalk System seeks to re-establish communication and balance within your body. We work based on priority and it may be the case that another part of your body first needs to be addressed before the back pain can be addressed.

It could also be that the source of the back pain may not be from the back but also from the shoulder. BodyTalk recognizes that while conditions may look the same, no two individuals are exactly the same and different communication links are needed to balance each individual.

The focus of each session is on the whole person, rather than on a particular symptom as the symptom in this case may just be back pain and the root cause may be from your shoulder.
